Necessary Conditions - Initial Thoughts

The necessary conditions challenge video was developed to trigger some thoughts for you and your team about what it would take to implement professional learning communities (PLC) in your school. After viewing the challenge video for necessary conditions, please capture your initial thoughts about what conditions will need to be in place for your school or subgroup to effectively implement a meaningful professional learning community and what barriers your school will need to address. Use the chart below (initial thoughts section on the left side) to list your individual thoughts and then engage with a similar process with your team (right side) to develop a collective school-wide response to the challenge. As you go through this process, you may want to keep the following questions in mind.
- What issues were brought up during the challenge video that are relevant to our school?
- What issues exist in our school that were not brought up in the video but need to be added to our list?
- What issues on the list will take the most energy to overcome?
After your team completes the list, prioritize the items on the list and draft a short summary of your team’s initial thoughts. Keep this document as you and your team will pull this back out after researching, exploring, and learning more about how to overcome the barriers on your list.
